Iomega UltraMax Plus Desktop Hard Drive

Posted by Swayam Das Sunday, August 8, 2010

If you’re looking for storage for a Mac, or just something that packs the style punches, the Iomega UltraMax Plus Desktop Hard Drive is worth considering. The look is clean, and there’s the dotted-grille design and aluminum shell that would look comfy coming out of Apple’s design labs. It also covers all manners of connectivity options – you get USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and eSATA ports, which allow the UltraMax Plus to achieve impressive transfer speeds, if you have the relevant hardware on your Mac/PC like a FireWire 800 port or eSATA connection that is. It’s pricey, but the inclusion of speedier ports, a winning design and data protection features like RAID may make it worth your while.

Partition Assistant 2.1 Edition Review

Posted by Swayam Das Saturday, July 17, 2010

Since the recent advancements in Computing Technology, Operating Systems {OS} have grown more compatible and ‘complicated’ in their very own blue-chip levels. What we see in our Graphical User Interface (GUI) is often the stimulated picture (results) of several complicated data interchange between Integrated Circuits (ICs). Now, when it comes down to the level of segregating those individual components we often find ourselves in deep trouble!
Most of us, that are ‘regular’ computer users will have problems in creating and managing ‘partitions’ but does that mean that we will let a 3rd person interfere in our problem and call a sum of money to fix it, when the problem wasn’t a problem at all?
Thanks to ‘Partition Assistant 2.1’ software now we can quite easily set up our partitions and save ‘that’ amount which we were going to waste on a stupid reason! ;)

Getting down to the Software:
Okay, now let us get down to the specifications of this software!

Firstly, we shall take a peek at the ‘Setup’ Section:
The present version of ‘Partition Assistant Home Edition’ is 2.1, and is projected for 32-bit Windows OS. For those looking for ’64-bit’, you can check out their Professional and Server Edition. It’s really amazing to see how the power-horse has been compiled under a mere 3.32MB in size.
The Installation was pretty simple, not that boring because Partition Assistant Home Edition surely has an installer with few screens to bother you for multiple clicks!

If you interested to check out the ‘Interface’ Section:
Well, nothing special here. Just a simple outlook, like the other Partition Managers! In a way, it’s kind of Good because several other softwares are there that confuse you by their ‘high-performance’ outlook. If you still find yourself ‘lost’ then refer to their PDF Manual, which is well descriptive, and, has been given a Good-Guide projection.

Finally, the most awaited part – ‘Features’ is here:
As we, as users, move into the unknown future, the number of applications and their installations follow us too. Thus, increasing the data files day-by-day. This let’s Windows very own system partition run out of disk space, and the performance of the system drastically reduces. To resolve this problem, most users have to reinstall operating system and create a bigger partition, but with the built-in partition manager of Partition Assistant help, all your problems can be solved easily and efficiently. It can extend your Windows system partition without loss of data and re-installation.

The Basic Partitioning Features, are like the usual softwares in this genre, comprising of features like – Create, Format, Delete, Hide, Unhide partitions, Assign, Remove drive letters, Mark a partition as active, Change partition volume labels, Check file system integrity, Check disk bad sectors, Permanently wipe disk data, Convert file system, Clear system disk.

The features that I loved are as follows –
Under Advanced Partitioning Features, we have, Hot resize system partition without work interruption, Resize partition to optimize disk space management, Move partition from one location to another, Merge two or more partitions into a larger one, Split one big partition into two or more, Extend partition to increase the capacity, Shrink partition to release more unallocated space, Redistribute free space to create new partition, Extend partition wizard step-by-step help you, Repartition without data loss.

And, Under Additional Features, we have, Virtual pre-execution, preview any operation tasks before apply to the disk, Flexible and adjustable drag & drop interface, Display hard disk configuration in graphic form (Disk Panel), View all disk and partition properties, Display operation progress in graphic form and step by step, Support Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit), Support file system including FAT, FAT32 and NTFS, Support hard disks from 100MB to 2TB, Support up to 32 disks, Support all hardware RAID, Support storage devices including IDE, SATA, SCSI, USB disk, FireWire disk etc, Password Protecting Partition Assistant.

So, after sighting it’s features, we practically come to the end of this review, but before ending this post, I would like to remind you that while there may be better free partitioning tools out there, Partition Assistant Home Edition is the right choice till this date, if you want to partition your hard disk drive!

If you have any questions or suggestion then please comment here!

Thus, see you all in my next post!

Cheerz! Have a Good Day!

Sincerely,
SwayamDas2010.

Apple iPhone OS4 | 10 Reasons to Upgrade

Posted by Swayam Das Monday, June 21, 2010

Finally, The Apple's iOS 4 arrives Monday for proud owners of the iPhone 3GS and 3rd Generation iPod Touch, delivering a bevy of new features worth the upgrade. Apple has not specified what time it will be releasing iOS 4, but if last year's 3.0 release is anything to go by, expect the new operating system to hit the tubes sometime after 1 p.m. Eastern/10 a.m. Pacific Time. Patience is also a must, as it is also a virtue, for millions of devices are eligible for the free upgrade, putting a lot of pressure of Apple's servers.

Before we indulge into the awesome-goodies within iOS 4, a sad reminder for original iPhone and iPod Touch users: you won't be able to upgrade to iOS 4, as Apple says the hardware on these devices is not supported. iPhone 3G owners will get the update, some of the features below won't be available, such as multitasking.
Also, if you have an iPad (which runs iOS 3.2), iOS 4 will arrive for you only in September. On the reverse, many iPad-only features by now have been ported into iOS 4 for. So here are the 10 cool new and useful features in iOS 4.Let's go take a look!

Smart Folders

As simple as it sounds, this feature was missing on the iPhone. The folders feature in iOS 4 will help you declutter your home screen, letting you compile under a single location up to 12 applications.

To access folders, enter customize mode (tap on an icon until all icons start jiggling), slide any icon on to another and a new folder is created. You can rename the folder to your liking, but iOS 4 will also suggest a folder name if applications grouped in a folder belong to the same category (like games, utilities, travel).

Wallpapers everywhere

iOS 4 lets you set a wallpaper not only for the lock screen (as previously available), but also for the home screen. Like on the iPad, you will have the option to select a different image for the lock and home screen, or you can use the same image throughout. There is no way to set a wallpaper for each of your home screens, though.

E-mail improvements

The first thing you will notice in the Mail app in iOS 4 is the unified inbox. Users will multiple e-mail accounts have been longing for this feature for a while, and Apple finally delivered.

There is also support for threaded messages, so you can easily follow up on conversations (each discussion has a single entry that you can tap on and expand it). A big boon for business users will also be support for multiple Exchange account, as only one per device was available by now.

Spell-Checker

Alongside the predictive typing on the iPhone, spelling corrections were missing, but this issue is resolved with iOS 4. Misspelled words will be underlines with a jagged red line, and when tapped correction suggestions will be displayed. This feature works system-wide, including in Mail and Notes.

SMS search & Character Count

You can search through SMS messages in iOS 4, just like you do with e-mails in the Mail app. Just flick the top of the main messages screen and a search bar is revealed. A character count while typing a message is also displayed, so you can keep tabs on your SMS allowance.

iPod Playlist Creation & Editing

iOS 4 bring a few enhancement to the iPod app as well. You will be able to see a new music control bar at the bottom of the screen when listening to music in the background. There is also the capability to create and edit playlists on your iPhone with iOS 4, which get synced with iTunes when connected to your computer.

Orientation lock

The iPhone screen won't annoyingly rotate any more when you are laying in bed reading on a side. The new OS brings a software orientation lock feature, which you can access by double-tapping the Home button and then swipe to the left (the same way you access the iPod controls).

iBooks

The iBooks app is coming to your iPhone with iOS 4. You will be able to sync your existing iBooks library (books purchased from the iPad) and also add PDF files to it.

A closer look into the application reveals that the iBooks has been developed to keep in sync with your iPad (and vice versa) where you left off reading a book. You will have to download iBooks manually from the App store.

Bluetooth keyboards support

iOS 4 now enables you to use any compatible Bluetooth keyboard and type away long messages.

Multitasking

Multitasking is the biggest feature in iOS 4. First off, developers will have to update their apps to be compatible with iOS 4 multitasking. Theoretically, you will be able to use Pandora in the background while playing a game, or receive a Skype call while reading your email.

To access your open apps, double-tap the Home button and icons of the application running in the background will be displayed along the bottom of the screen. Tap on the app you want to switch to and you are in.
Alongside multitasking, Wi-Fi will no longer disconnect when your iPhone is locked, so you can receive calls and notifications from Wi-Fi only apps (like Skype) as long as you have a connection available.

Five more noteworthy improvements:

· 5X digital zoom for the camera
· Tap-to-focus video
· Suggestion in Safari and universal search
· Birthday calendar
· Places and events in Photos app

Google launches encrypted search

Posted by Swayam Das Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Google finally rolls out "Google Encrypted Search". This search is quite unique and more secure in it's functionality! Google SSL encrypted version allows more secure and private searching between your computer and Google on the internet. It eliminates possibility of leaking data to any third party while search data is transferred between your computer and Google using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology.

Google's new Secure Search Engine looks like this:

To use this goto https://www.google.com/ instead of at http://www.google.com/ and Google search like you always do. The Advantage: An encrypted connection is created between your browser and Google. This secured channel helps protect your search terms and your search results pages from being intercepted by a third party on the network.

This is especially useful if you're using a public computer, an open WiFi network or you're using Google for sensitive searches. An interesting side-effect is that browsers no longer send referrals when you're clicking on search results that don't use SSL.

As you can see from the above snapshot, Google has once again, labeled it 'Beta'.
They, (Official Google Blog: Search more securely with encrypted Google web search) explains this as, "First, it currently covers only the core Google web search product. To help avoid misunderstanding, when you search using SSL, you won’t see links to offerings like Image Search and Maps that, for the most part, don’t support SSL at this time. Also, since SSL connections require additional time to set up the encryption between your browser and the remote web server, your experience with search over SSL might be slightly slower than your regular Google search experience. What won’t change is that you will still get the same great search results."

But, Google has also reminded it's users, "A few notes to remember: Google will still maintain search data to improve your search quality and to provide better service. Searching over SSL doesn’t reduce the data sent to Google — it only hides that data from third parties who seek it. And clicking on any of the web results, including Google universal search results for unsupported services like Google Images, could take you out of SSL mode. Our hope is that more websites and services will add support for SSL to help create a better and more consistent experience for you."

Thus, overall, we hope that Google Encrypted Search will flourish and provide us with much safer, secured, better connectivity.

Cheerz! Have a Nice Day! :)

Garmin Asus M10 Review | SwayamDas2010

Posted by Swayam Das Sunday, May 23, 2010

With Windows Phone 7 due year end, the current crop of Windows Mobile 6.5 phones just seem so ho-hum. The Garmin Asus M10 nearly got the same treatment -- it features a 3.5-in WVGA display, 512 RAM and 512 ROM, 4GB of flash memory, a 5 megapixel camera, a 1500mAh battery and the usual connectivity options.

Bog-standard stuff, really. Where M10 excels is the secret to many a restaurateur's success --- location, location, and, simply location!

The strong association with Garmin has meant that this phone is built with location at its core, with navigation functions linked to commonly used applications such as contacts, email and the browser. Map Data is powered by Navteq, and the M10 is ready to use with pre-installed map data and turn-by-turn voice guided navigation for 62 of the century's largest cities.

As with a location-focused device, you get advanced navigation features, commonly found on stand-alone GPS devices, such as lane assist which tells you which lane to switch to for a turn etc. There's also a highway mode which lets you plan ahead so you don't miss that critical turn-off. Other than this, the M10 is a dream to use in the car, as the sales kit includes everything you would need to use the device in a car, including a powered cradle and windshield mount.

I only wish that the screen was more finger friendly -- a capacitive display would have helped -- and one wouldn't have to pull out the stylus every now and then to use the device. That said, if you're looking for a location-oriented phone and don't have to wait for Windows Phone 7, this could be the device for you.

Lithium Technologies Acquires Scout Labs

Posted by Swayam Das Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Lithium Technologies, a provider of social customer relationship management services, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Scout Labs, a provider of social media monitoring services.

According to their Webcast,

"We are pleased to announce that Lithium Technologies has acquired Scout Labs! Separately, we have helped over 500 companies create successful customer communities and measure and manage social media. Together, we are building the first Social CRM platform that empowers companies to listen, engage, and act on their customers’ conversations across the entire social web.

We’ve heard from our customers that to maximize the business value of the social web, they need a comprehensive picture of what their customers are saying and doing. Together we are dedicated to delivering measurable, actionable insight into the needs and wants of social customers, wherever they express them.
But most of all, Lithium and Scout Labs are united by a belief that the social web is not just another source of customer support inquiries or another vehicle for canned marketing messages. When companies bring their advocates together in a customer network, they transform the way they do business – working together with customers to promote authentic interest through word of mouth, innovate on products, and deliver world-class support.
That’s our vision for Social CRM. That’s why we’re so excited to come together."

With completion of this deal, both the parties have now a strong base in the genre of 'Social Media'.
Scout Labs counts over 350 clients for its social media monitoring services, including Disney, Coca-Cola, Motorola, McDonalds, only to name a few. Whereas, Lithium's clients include Best Buy, Sony, AT&T, PayPal and Research in Motion, Lenovo.

Thus, we can very well imagine the Bond that has been created! :) Lithium also said that it will integrate Scout Labs' technology into its own platform while continuing to offer Scout Labs' services as a standalone product.

The new EV-neo scooter that can be equaled with a 50cc petrol-powered bike can take one 20 miles on a single charge and can reach speeds of up to 20mph.

The vehicle can be fully charged in four hours from a home socket and can charge about 80% in 20 minutes from a special machine.
The product released in Japan is targeted at delivery companies such as pizza firms.
Honda General Manager Toshiyuki Inuma said the new scooter gives the company a chance to make its presence felt in the electric vehicle area.
Though Honda has the Insight hybrid car in its portfolio, but it has been quite inactive in the two-wheeler division compared with its competitors Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors.

Mr Inuma said:" The motorcycle is a more nimble business, and it allows us to try out more things."

Incredible £90m Luxury Yacht Concept Design

Posted by Swayam Das Wednesday, April 14, 2010

There is no word, known as "impossible" in many Tycoons' Dictionary, but, the concept of integrating a luxury line into modern yacht building is really a daunting task! The stylish French company Hermès best known for it's £3,000 Birkin handbags and silk scarves, is branching into a new luxury line and has teamed up with the Monaco-based ship-builder Wally to create the ‘WHY 58×38,’ a mega-yacht that will cost around £90 million to build with the enormous dimensions of 58 meters long and 38 meters wide.

Before I start off giving the description of this Utopian Idea and Conception, I would like to Thank - Wellington Almeida, for sharing such an awesome post with me, as well as, Thanks to "LooksGd.com" for allowing me to publish this unique post and sharing it with my Friends! Cheerz! :)

Alright, let's role! Ahoy! :)

The WHY 58×38 is a concept yacht solely dedicated to bringing a luxury living lifestyle out to the sea by offering incredible durability, space and cutting-edge technologies at every single turn.

The boat, which is built on three decks, also features a 25 meter swimming pool on the bow that hugs the contours of the helipad. Inside ‘adaptable living spaces’ are organized around a salon that includes a library, music room, dining room, and even a cinema that opens on to the sea.

The yacht is able to cruise at 12 knots with a maximum speed of 14 knots. It is also impressive that according to the makers, it can make four Atlantic crossings without any major maintenance.

The creators are not only focused on the luxury aspect of the ship, but also greatly emphasize its sustainability. Any eco-conscious buyer can be reassured that the ship has been designed with three large sky lights and 300 square meters of windows to give a maximum amount of natural light. It will also be fitted with an ultra-low
consumption LED lighting system.

The solar panels covering the roof and sides of the vessel will help save at least 200 tons of diesel fuel a year. The yacht also comes equipped with waste management systems designed to handle both organic and inorganic waste products. Now, that's quite ECO-Friendly as well! :)
