The Internet as a whole is based on several dimensions. A vital, and, important one, is that of Mobile Computing, or the WAP, as we know it! This post is about a review on a well known J2ME Browser - Bolt Browser. I will try my level best to highlight the features below! So, here we go:-
Starting from the Installation Procedure, Bolt loads up quite FAST! It took Bolt to load up around 2secs in my cell! It uses efficient JAVA form handling to ensure better productivity, and, faster user experience!
Regarding it's display, it's quite good! You have the "Tab" feature placed right on top, with the 3 heads - "History", "Favorites", "Feeds". Since this unique feature is placed horizontally, it enables the user to browse freely and comfortably between the panes!
Bolt Browser also has a cursor(mouse) to help you navigate through the various links present in that given webpage! This really helps a lot! :)
Ok, now let's take a peek at the Performance Section, I have noticed that Bolt's Rendering accuracy is pretty good but it does mess up few images properties(color, size), especially when you open a high resolution Twitpic in "High" Image Quality!
According to its Speed, Bolt is a lot faster than other WebKit based Browsers. The most enriching feature is that Bolt actually brings to you the feel of Web Browsing from your PC/MAC, right inside your Mobile! The exact version is maintained!
Interestingly, we found that in the Data Reduction Section, there is a way of verifying the actual data consumed as Bolt has the option to view web-page information, the data usage, and lots more!
About it's Features, Bolt has a built-in Download Manager, which is pretty effective if you are downloading files greater than 3MB! It enables you to switch on to some other work, while it downloads in the background! You can even browse the web, while simultaneously downloading songs, files, etc.
Another contrasting feature by which Bolt is superior to Opera Mini 4.2 is by having a 'Copy-Paste' facility which allows copying texts right from the website to any text editor! This unique feature is not supported by Opera Mini 4.2!
Talking about it's Tabs, Bolt's Split-Screen mode divides the screen in horizontal version. The top half has the zoomed-out view of a page while the bottom-half shows a full-zoomed area of the page around the cursor and it looks like this:
This feature of having a "Magnifier" helps a lot if your reading texts and have vision problems! Although I don't have any vision problem, but it helped me a lot in creating this review! :)
Bolt’s Bookmark and RSS Feed Managers are quite unique from the other mobile browsers. If the current webpage has a number somewhere, Bolt detects it and allows you to either call or send an SMS to that number. This is a competitive advantage over Opera Mini, as it also detects numbers but only allows the user
to call the number.
Now, there's lots more in Bolt Browser, but, I am not discussing it here! ;) Reason: "Try it out yourself!!" :)
Feel to free to comment your experience!
Cheerz, Have a nice day! :)
